Survey By Design is the work of Dr. Rebecca Sims.

Dr. Sims received her B.A. in Psychology and French from Northwestern University in 1994, and earned her Ph.D. in psychology from SUNY Stony Brook in 1999. She taught various psychology courses at Loyola University, Lewis University, Trinity Christian College, Northeastern Illinois University and Barat College of DePaul University. For eight years, she worked as a Senior Research Analyst with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Research and Evaluation Department in Chicago. More recently, she has done consulting work for the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (LSTC).

In graduate school, Dr. Sims studied emotional expression in different cultures and completed her dissertation “Cultural Differences in the Display of Emotion” in 1999. She also published a study of the use of online surveys, “Web surveys: Applications in Denominational Research,” Review of Religious Research, 49(1), September 2007.

Dr. Sims has extensive training in research methods and statistics, and several years of experience with survey development and research, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. In her spare time, she enjoys tap dancing and lives in Chicago with her husband and two children.
